Michael has reported on and worked for the print industry since 1987, when he was editor of Desktop Publishing Today, the UK’s first monthly trade magazine for the technology that is now used in every print company and design agency around the world.

He subsequently worked with major industry players such as Adobe Systems, Dalim, Fujifilm Graphic Systems, InfoTrends, Linotype, Scitex, Screen and X-Rite, including producing award-winning customer magazines. He has had freelance work published in a variety of industry titles in the print and professional photographic sectors and is the co-author of two books on digital image correction and colour management.

Michael has edited Digital Printer for the last five years, seeing the digital revolution in print progress from design and prepress through printing, finishing and now software for automation not only of production processes but of the entire print enterprise, from estimate to invoice.

Keith McMurtrie has been with leading UK MIS developer Tharstern for 31 years, joining as technical manager back in the days when the company only numbered seven people, before which he worked as a freelance developer in the video games industry.

His blend of commercial understanding and technical ability led to several firsts for Tharstern and he became managing director in 1995, before a buy-out in 2014 when the founder sold the business. Since then, the company has grown to some 60 people, rebranded, moved into purpose-built offices in Colne, Lancashire, pioneered significant product developments and launched into international markets.

Known in the industry for his knowledge of integrated workflows and JDF, he is regularly asked to speak on these topics at partner events.
