The post infection consequences of COVID-19 are only starting to be fully realized. Initially, studies indicated that patients with diabetes had a higher chance of serious complications from COVID-19. However, recent reports now suggest an increased risk of diabetes diagnosis after a COVID-19 infection. During this discussion of diabetes in the context of COVID-19, Dr. Kaufman will explain why hemoglobin A1c testing is even more important in today’s healthcare landscape, and will explore the hypotheses and pathophysiology behind this recent trend.

Key learning objectives

  • Understand the pathophysiology of diabetes
  • Learn how an infection or inflammation interacts with patients with diabetes
  • Discover how COVID-19 altered diabetes assessment and management
