The Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, proclaimed by the United Nations in September 2020, has as its target the reduction of road traffic deaths and injuries by 50% by 2030. Governments are encouraged to implement efforts that will achieve these reductions. They are supported by partners including national and international agencies, civil society organizations, foundations, academia and the private sector.

The Global Plan for the Decade of Action, launched on 28 October 2021, highlights the “what to do, how to do it and who to do it” of road safety. It is a blueprint for national and local road safety policies, programmes and activities for the coming years. The launch itself kicked off an intensive six-week period of road safety activity worldwide, through to the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on 21 November 2021 and the one-day preparatory meeting to the “High-level Meeting on Global Road Safety” on 3 December 2021.
